- ItemEmergency Alcohol Consumption Limit Detector(NSBM Green University, 2021-11-26) Ranathunga, N.; Sapraz, M.Drink driving has become one of the primary root causes of the exponential growth of vehicle accidents. This heedless driving of the drunk drivers would risk and damage lives and properties, which would lead to economic redundancy. According to literature, currently, authorities are using a piece of equipment called a Breathalyzer to check the alcohol limit of the person's breath. But apparently, it is only intended for one-time use only. As a superior solution for this problem, an Emergency Alcohol Consumption level detector is proposed through this paper. This reusable system that prevents drivers from drink driving would mitigate the number of accidents and damages. This system is not only a solution to secure lives and properties from drunk drivers but will also provide ordinary people and authorities a better and new service, which will be a huge factor in elevating economic growth by increasing the standard of peoples' lives.
- ItemExploring the Potential of an E-Service for Environmental Sustainability in Sri Lanka(NSBM Green University, 2019-11-22) Karunaratne, I.; Sapraz, M.During recent past, issues due to environmental degradation have come up in different parts of Sri Lanka due to various anthropogenic causes. Some of the recent environmental problems in the country have triggered the common citizens to proactively contribute to environmental sustainability. Social media has become a pragmatic force of communication during the past and ‘Wilpattu’ deforestation incident has been one such, which was criticized heavily, causing the responsible parties to collide with social media battles rather than take up the correct course of remedial action. Through the initial analyses conducted using available social media comments, it was evident that the general public was not made aware of the truth on time. Given the exploratory nature of this research, perceptions of several randomly selected individuals who are directly/ indirectly involved and not involved in the ‘Wilpattu’ incident have been interviewed to formulate several hypotheses and it is evident that, lack of effective communication of the environmental concern, quality of feedback, time delay and evidence of action taken up by responsible authorities were not transparent enough to the general public with concern to the ‘Wilpattu’ incident. In conclusion, it is proposed that an integrated e-service that can link the general public with the responsible authorities with positive and frequent feedbacks, is the clear solution for many if not all environmental related issues in Sri Lanka.
- ItemGoverning Environmental Sustainability: A Literature Review(NSBM Green University, 2018-08-25) Sapraz, M.; Han, S.Environmental sustainability is the most important global challenge. All governments in the world are recommended to address this challenge by using digital technologies and their applications. Scientific evidence has shown that human behaviors contribute significantly to the deterioration of the natural environment. Therefore, this is crucial that governments can exploit the benefits of digital technologies to engage their citizens to handle/govern environmental sustainability. In this paper, we conduct a systematic literature review and aim to deepen our understanding of the interrelationships between e-government, citizen participation, and environmental sustainability. The results show that the research that explores this crucial interrelationship is surprisingly rare. Therefore, more future study is called for contributing more knowledge towards this research focus.
